My Vice = Men.

September 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The other day I was talking with my mom about dating and relationships, my favorite topic to talk about with her, legit. She just busts out in hilarity, exposing her prejudices (some understandable, some a tad bit racist, but all funny) in the many boys/guys/men that I have fancied over the years. I also love that she knows what a voracious flirt I am and never forgets to remind me that my downfall will be the titi, so I gotta stay focused. I love my mom, even though she’s currently mad at me for letting the dog in without wiping his feet.

And as much as I want a nice, smart, confident, and cocky Filipino man to be my everything, there are just some guys that will always ALWAYS take my mind away from my ultimate goal. Because everyone has a to-do list (don’t lie). And because (I am notorious for this, I’m not gonna lie) you are just that attracted to other people, you can’t help yourself. So here’s my list that I really had to think about, of the guys that I can’t help but swoon over, in order.

Sabzi from Blue Scholars

9. Sabzi from Blue Scholars

Sabzi from Blue Scholars. Blue Scholars is one of my favorite rap groups in the game. They got that Northwest flavor going on. Geo, the rapper, reps the Pin@ys of the world and the lyrics just shout out to the everyday homies trying to make their way in life. However, as a music junkie, what I appreciate as much if not more than Geo’s lyrics are Sabzi’s beats, which are always on point and always amazing. I definitely recommend “Sagaba” and “No Rest for the Weary” on their Blue Scholar’s album and “Ordinary Guys” in their Bayani album. I saw them perform at ECAASU at Cornell last year and Sabzi was just so fine with his horn-rimmed glasses behind his DJ set. So hot.

Gerard Butler

8. Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler. If you have not seen the sexiness that is this man, go watch 300, Tomb Raider, and The Phantom of the Opera right now. Obviously I’d put him as the Phantom here because 1) it was the first role that I remember seeing him in and 2) he was so sexy as the Phantom. His voice and mannerisms were exactly how I pictured the Phantom to be and as much as I LOVE the Broadway musical, he was amazing. He’s a smart cookie, too – working on a law degree before deciding to become an actor (yay!). One more quick note: for those that don’t know, that was Gerard Butler’s body, in all its hotness, on 300 – the whole cast of Spartans went through intensive training to be the drool-worthy men they were.

Common

7. Common

Common. I have been listening to the Resurrection album non-stop these past few days – I had forgotten how amazing this record is. I have a thing with guys that possess musical prowess and I doubt anyone would argue with me that Common is one of the best MC’s around. Homie seems to be following Mos Def’s footsteps, gaining some acting chops from Smokin’ Aces and Street Kings (which I just saw last night – I was pleasantly entertained, especially since Hugh Laurie was in it). Who doesn’t love a man that’s multi-talented, ne? Plus it helps that he is INCREDIBLY HOT. I mean look at this man! He is sex all over. Everytime I see him in an Alicia Keys video I am all on hatin’ on the girl because she gets to be next to this man. I love Common.

Piolo Pascual

6. Piolo Pascual

Piolo Pascual. I don’t know what it is but I feel like every Filipina is in love with this man. I didn’t see it before but age has done him well because he is gorgeous. He also breathes multi-faceted as he is an actor, singer, and model (among other things) in the Philippines. Again, I didn’t really jump on the Piolo bandwagon until recently but ever since then he’s become the epitome of what my dad wants in my man. Because look at him – he looks so sweet and well-mannered, the perfect man for an Asian daughter. Really, he’s the only person my dad would be okay with in marrying me. Then again, my dad is a little outta control.

John Cho

5. John Cho

John Cho. I have been in love with this man since I first saw him in the short lived comedy Off Centre when the WB was still around. Remember that network? But he cracked me up the whole time. And he was fine. Still is. We all know him as that guy who coined “MILF,” Steve in Better Luck Tomorrow (my brother’s favorite movie) and of course the lovable, albeit kinda annoying (sorry) Harold in Harold and Kumar. He also has a band and is going to star as Sulu in the Star Trek movie (of which I am going to watch because he and Zachary Quinto is in it). I don’t want to talk too much about my love for him because he is married and I wouldn’t stop gushing, so I’ll leave with this: The8Asians had the funniest post discussing the hotness (or not-so-hotness) of John Cho. My opinion is obvious.

Luis Manzano

4. Luis Manzano

Luis Manzano. This man is just beautiful. Absolutely freaking hot. I mean… there are no words from me, seriously. First off he’s got amazing genes – he’s the son of the Philippines’ most beautiful people (I think), actor Edu Manzano and actress/mayor Vilma Santos. Second he’s a MYX VJ and TV star. Part of the reason I watch ASAP ‘08 and TFC is to see this man. Third he just seems like the biggest dork on earth with a little cockiness in the mix, which I find incredibly attractive. And look, it’s true love if I’m actually rooting for him to get with people – I was always rooting for him and Toni Gonzaga to get together but obv that didn’t work. Anyways, yea. He’s hot. *Swoon*

Billy, the Blue Ranger

3. Billy, the Blue Ranger

Billy, the Blue Power Ranger. I gotta have the nerdy science guy on here. He was a man after my own little nerdy, pre-pubescent heart. HaHa! I’m excluding Adam, who played like every color ranger (and is in my profile pic – yay!), because Billy and all his adorable-ness was there first. I’m also ignoring adding Jason the Red Ranger because even though I always thought of him as the leader (I was hating on Tommy for a good minute because he was a bad guy), he just didn’t have the charm that Billy had. I mean c’mon! It’s the Blue Ranger! The one who didn’t know how to fight until he morphed and then *bam* owned those putties. The one who kept using big words that I now understand and don’t need Trini to translate. The one who always got the Rangers out when quick thinking and science prowess was involved (which was like all the time). And the one who got the most game – seriously, he had like 4 love interests during his tenure (from what I’ve read). All and all he is amazing. Note: I’m not talking about the actor that plays Billy, David Yost. Although he is still looking good for his age, he can’t morph into the all-powerful Blue Ranger and use the Triceratops megazord. HaHa!

Lee Minwoo

2. Lee Minwoo

Lee Minwoo from Shinhwa. My boyband of choice, the one that I go crazy fan-girl over, is Shinhwa. They’re a 6-member group from South Korea, going on their 10th year together I believe. They’ve currently disbanded because of the mandatory conscription rule in SK. But I am still obsessed. And although my first love was Kim Dongwan, Lee Minwoo just SCREAMS sex, and of course I would like it. He’s a talented ball of energy and hotness – a singer, dancer, and producer. And he models. He is such a beautiful man. He’s also a huge dork and absolutely silly; how can you NOT love a man like that? And! He’s the perfect size for me – not too tall, not too short. I wouldn’t have to go on my tiptoes to kiss him. A girl can dream, ne?

And my number 1…

Vudoo Soul

Vudoo Soul

Vudoo Soul. Seriously, I have the BIGGEST crush/love on this man ever since I heard “Lover Come Over.” I wish I remembered how I came to find his music, but I love it – the nice & pleasant R&B that I bump so much. He came to my school last year and you don’t even understand how psyched and fan-girl I was. I was geekin’ out the whole time, my friends will attest to it. Why him? He’s a MIT grad, so he’s a smartie. He gave up finding a job in engineering to pursue a music career, so he’s willing to go for what he wants. He’s a singer/musician, so obviously homie’s talented. He’s from California, and we all know the West Coast boys are bomb. He’s a nerd. He’s got crazy charisma. And, like Mr. Lee Minwoo, he just begs for me to want him, no joke. I am just so in love with this man, you don’t even know. HaHa. On the real though, his music is great – I suggest checking out his Myspace.

So what did we learn today? That I love me some men. HaHa! Feel free to add any other sexy men that you (and I) can freely swoon over, because despite them being my vice, it’s a vice I freely accept.
